Drawing Arrows in Organic Chemistry


Arrow drawing in organic chemistry is possibly one of the most important aspects of the course. Indicating the flow of electrons properly can certainly be the difference between passing and failing the course. Do you struggle with drawing arrows properly? If so, this post is for you!

The important concept to keep in mind when drawing arrows is the fact that they always go from a negative charge to a positive (or partial positive) charge. Even when you see a positive charge move, note that the arrows do not show movement of that charge. The positive charge moves as a result of the flow of electrons and it is these electrons that you must show moving with arrows.
